Stapleford houses and what they need

Stapleford has a mix we know well. There are Victorian and Edwardian terraces around the town centre and Derby Road, interwar semis on the roads running up towards Bramcote and Hickings Lane, post-war semis and bungalows on the estates towards Toton and Sandiacre, and newer houses on the infill developments.

The 1930s semis are the ones we convert most. They tend to have a hipped roof and enough height at the ridge for a hip-to-gable and rear dormer, which turns a two-bedroom-and-box-room into a real three-bedroom house. The terraces suit single-storey rear extensions that open up the kitchen, and we often re-do the drainage and the old lean-to at the same time.

Bungalows across the town are a good fit for both a loft conversion and a rear extension, and many of the owners we meet are extending to stay put rather than move. Older houses also come to us for whole-house refurbishment: rewires, replastering, new kitchens and bathrooms, and new flooring throughout.
